Family Ministry seeks to partner with families to impact the next generation for Christ: Here's why:
Family Ministry Philosophy
As a Family Ministry Team we seek to partner with and come alongside, parents who are in the adventure/process of passing their faith onto their children. The family and the church are the two main spiritual influences in a child's life and it is our belief that when these two influences work together, their combined impact will be even greater than their separate efforts.
Family Experience (FX)
In order to equip parents more effectively, we offer a monthly family opportunity called FX-Family Experience. Our goal is to provide a time to worship, enjoy skits, and hear biblical teaching as a family. After laughing together and experiencing the same teaching, the expectation is that parents will be intentional in continuing the conversation with their kids outside of Riverwood. An FX is designed to do two things; for elementary age children, the FX will introduce the topic that their Sunday school classes will be teaching that month. For older students, the FX will be a relational connecting place for parents to connect with other parents as well as their child's small group leader. Our desire is that families of all ages will enjoy this time together and that it will open the door for continued conversation at home.
Periodically we will offer Sunday morning electives for parents to study how God wants us to disciple and lead the children that he has given us. These will be topical in nature and run for approximately six weeks at a time.
Simplifying the Calendar
In addition we are seeking to simplify the church calendar. We are adjusting our weekly schedule in order to allow for more family time at home. Once a month, typically the first Sunday of the month, we will meet at 6:00 pm for FX. Middle School will move from Wednesday nights to Sunday nights (non-FX Sundays). High School JAB will continue to meet Sunday nights (non-FX Sundays) at 6:00 pm. There will be no Family Ministry on Wednesday nights (Parent Mentor Groups or Club 226). This will open up another night in the week to enable you to be more intentional with your family.
