The Riverwoods: Family Ministry Focusing on Children
Family ministry is a philosophy that shapes how we do ministry. According to Deuteronomy 6:4-7, the transfer of spiritual truth from one generation to the next happens in the family. As parents seek to love God with all their heart, soul, and might, they then transfer biblical truth to their children while they live life together every day. One of the roles of the church is to come alongside families to encourage, equip, teach, and love in this process of transferring truth.
Children's classes are available each service 3 years through 4th grade. Every class has a time of worship, a Bible story time, Bible story application and a game or craft.
For children age 2 and younger. We believe babies and toddlers are able to learn, so in the nursery children will hear bible stories that will be repeated frequently so that by the time the child "graduates" from the nursery, he/she will be familiar with some Bible truths. With the toddlers, we will follow a basic routine of welcome time, story time, play time, snack time, and closing time. We believe that routine helps children to feel secure in knowing what they can expect during their stay.
Nursing moms, we have a private, special place in our nursery just for you when and if you need it.
Secure Child Check-In
Keeping children secure while they are away from their parents is a main focus therefore all of our teachers are background checked and a security check-in system is in place. First time guests with children who will be attending a class are required to register and check-in at the Information Kiosk.
In order to equip parents more effectively, we offer a monthly family opportunity called FX-Family Experience. Our goal is to provide a time to worship, enjoy skits, and hear biblical teaching as a family. After laughing together and experiencing the same teaching, the expectation is that parents will be intentional in continuing the conversation with their kids outside of Riverwood. An FX is designed to do two things; for elementary age children, the FX will introduce the topic that their Sunday school classes will be teaching that month. For older students, the FX will be a relational connecting place for parents to connect with other parents as well as their child's small group leader. Our desire is that families of all ages will enjoy this time together and that it will open the door for continued conversation at home.
