Coulter, Dr. Neil & Joyce
Neil & Joyce Coulter are with Wycliffe Bible Translators. Neil is Assistant Professor of World Arts, at the Graduate Institute of Applied Linguistics, in Dallas, Texas. The family moved from the Pacific to Dallas, in order to bring their years of field missions experience to the task of mentoring and preparing the next generation of arts workers. Neil works with grad students from a wide range of backgrounds, equipping them to go into all the world and continue the music and arts work that he helped to pioneer in Papua New Guinea.
Neil & Joyce spent 12 years serving with Wycliffe Bible Translators in Papua New Guinea. Neil was Ethnomusicology Coordinator and Director for Language Services, and Joyce was the Head of the English Department at Ukarumpa International School.
As an ethnomusicologist, Neil worked alongside Bible translators to encourage creative, artistic, musical response to the gospel message. Through many workshops all over Papua New Guinea, local Christians composed new songs, using local musical traditions and vernacular languages.
